On November 4th, every Californian voter needs to go to the polls (or send mail) and vote YES! on Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act.
Why? We want checks and balances, so no one party controls everything; that is what Proposition 50 is all about. (Note: Proposition 50 is strongly endorsed by Governor Gavin Newsom, the man who stands up against Donald Trump.)
Quick story: as you know, President Trump ordered Texas Governor Greg Abbot (R) to draw up five new voting districts, all Republican-dominated.
Abbot obeyed: gerrymandering (restructuring) 5 new voting districts, all shaped for Republican advantage. If the story ended there, Republicans would keep the unbeatable majority they have right now.
But California is fighting back, with Proposition 50. As Republicans wrote up and threw in 5 more districts; Democrats must do the same — to restore balance.
If Prop 50 wins, Democrats (and Independents who caucus with Democrats) may gain control of the House of Representatives. Republicans will almost certainly still control the Senate, as well as the White House. Even so, a degree of balance will have been gained.
If, however, Prop 50 loses, Trump and his party will control all three branches — House, Senate, Presidency. Do Independents want such a one-sided government?
Consider: if you are an Independent or Democratic voter, you probably belong to at least one support group. It may already have endorsed Prop 50. If not, it should!
Check below. If you do not see your group, contact your leadership, and ask why.
