By Don C. Reed

Think of something you love: what first leaps into your mind? For me, it is the ocean. I love to soar almost weightless to the seafloor, then effortlessly return, in beams of underwater sun.

Once the sand moved, and a cream-colored triangular beast—a harmless angel shark—burst out and away.

The predators largely ignore us; we’re strangers in their world. I have swum with sharks and orcas, (working 15 years in an aquarium) and still have all my limbs. It was not so dangerous as the freeway, fortunately.

But if we truly love the sea, is there no obligation?

Every human who benefits from the ocean should help it—at very least by voting for environmentally supportive legislators, i.e. Democrats.

Democrats are strongly pro-environment; the Republicans, not so much. Republicans main goal, unfortunately, appears to be to wallow in wealth. And due to the near-absence of campaign contributions, the rich can literally give hundreds of millions in campaign contributions—which gives  them influence.

Democrats, on the other hand, are generally not the wealthy ones, and can only make small donations.

But those small donations add up.

Suggestion: whatever candidate you support, help him or her, a little bit more.

We need people in power who will not forget the sea.

You don’t have to give a lot—I almost never give more than $25—but we need to be part of the process.

Fight for what you love.
