PERSONHOOD BEFORE SUPREME COURT?

By Don C. Reed

Could conservatives impose a nationwide ban on abortion — without ever saying what they are doing? They could if they passed a personhood law, which gives full legal rights to embryos.

Check out the following: a new petition before the United States Supreme Court, specifically requesting a ruling on personhood.

“WITH ROE OUT THE DOOR, THE NEXT BIG BATTLE IS ALREADY ON THE SUPREME COURT STEPS (1)

“Catholics for Life and two pregnant people filing on behalf of their fetuses are asking the Court to reevaluate who, in light of the Justices’ June ruling, is covered under the 14th Amendment. Their petition asks if fetuses are entitled to due process and equal protection rights in the Constitution.”

From the petition: “Do unborn human beings, at any gestational age, have any rights under the United States Constitution? Or has Dobbs relegated all unborn human beings to the status of persona non grata in the eyes of the United States Constitution…No state court or legislature can answer this question. Only this court can — — as the final arbiter of what the United States Constitution means.

ANTIABORTION ACTIVISTS WANT THE SUPREME COURT TO BAN ABORTION ON A FEDERAL LEVEL (2)

“Just months after Roe v. Wade was overturned, conservative antiabortion activists have now petitioned the Supreme Court to take on a case that would establish “fetal personhood” nationwide — potentially producing a federal ban on abortion.

“…Antiabortion activists in Rhode Island just filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to consider overturning their state judges’ recent decision that fetuses do not have standing to challenge the state’s law protecting abortion rights. They want the high court to rule that fetuses are entitled to due process and equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment. Such a ruling establishing “fetal personhood would go beyond the Dobbs ruling, by banning abortions nationwide, rather than leaving the issue to the states.”

“Personhood”: a ridiculous concept — that a microscopic fertilized egg should have rights like a full-fledged human — but a very real danger: to women’s rights, to the In Vitro Fertilization process, and advanced stem cell research.

Keep track of the “personhood” noise. It is a serious threat to the freedoms you hold dear.
