Some find it hard to imagine any woman succeeding in the nation’s top job. Comments are made, like “America’s not ready for a female President,” etc… My feeling is, : “Can she do the job in all its facets, meaning can she think, talk, speechify, inspire, live without sleep — above all, on an intellectual level — can she fight?
Which reminds me of a story.
Chinese legend has it that a beautiful young woman, Yimm Wing Chun, was being forced to marry a brutal war lord. However, a Buddhist nun, Ng Mui, suggested the matter be settled in a hand-to-hand martial arts match. This amused the war lord, who agreed to give Wing Chun a year to train and get ready.
The nun taught her a new way of female self-defense, based on short punches and low kicks, to fight without warning or windup.
The bully returned, expecting an easy battle; instead, she broke his nose, crushed his knee, blackened his eyes, and convinced him to relocate.
And now, the climactic day is at hand: the end of voting. Will Donald Trump meet the warlord’s fate (in a slightly less traumatic form)?
If you have not voted, there may still be time. Please act immediately. Some states still allow registration; others may be open for early voting. Just Google “Secretary of State” and the name of your state. They will help you, if there is still time.
As for the “America’s not ready for a woman President”, I can only respond with rude noises and mild profanity. Before Kamala stepped onto the world stage, I was feeling miserable. Grampa Joe Biden had been great in his day, but that day was fading; he still had plenty of fight left in him, plus wisdom and unparalleled experience. Even so, we were about to lose, and Trump would be taking over. And then Joe gave Kamala his endorsement.
It was as though the sun came out again. She made 100 phone calls the first day, seeking support, which was generously given.
She has been working non-stop ever since. No one can question her work ability, nor the power of her mind, nor her incredible patriotism. She saw the country was in trouble, there was something she could do — and she climbed into the ring.
Anyone who doubted the Presidential level of her skills had only to stick around and watch.
In addition to delivering dozens of speeches, she had the famous debate with Donald, defeating him so badly he refused any rematch.
Consider: Kamala did what no other champion was able to do; she not only whipped Donald Trump, this man who rules by the politics of cruelty and fear, but she also sent him running, climbing out of the ring, in his own words vowing never to return.
Today is Sunday; Tuesday is the final day to vote.
I bet on Kamala.
P.S. The story of Wing Chun is at least partially a legend, but the fighting style is quite real. The forms were passed down over the generations, to an historical figure, Ip Man, and Ip Man taught Bruce Lee.
P. S. S.: Don’t forget to vote — and give a friend a ride to the polls!
